The Dreaded Bent Sills(i Hope Not)

I am about to have my first service on my Gal. Is this the time I need to check the sills after as i remember the numerous posts about the subject before but cannot remember if it was the service or another reason.

The other question about them is what do they bend\dent exactly so I know what to check for straight after.

check the sills immediately behind the front wheels and infront of the rear wheels. If they jack the car up, they often catch the vertical lip on the sill and...... :blink: :) ;) **** ~^!

You won't have a problem if they use a drive on lift.

My previous Galaxy had the cills bent three times by the Ford Dealership.

 

If you look at the cills from a distance you will soon discover if they're bent.

 

The edge of the cill can fold under due to the weight of the vehicle.

 

Apparently all cars are lifted on the cills, aghhhhhhh, but I understand a flyer has been issued about doing it on the Galaxy.

 

My cills were repaired each time but the vehicle was off the road a week each time.

Hi, one corner of mine has just been done by Kwik-fit - how bad was yours and how did they repair it. Kwick fit have suggested a small garage / bodyshop occross the road from them - they are insurance approved or should I stick with SEAT - 1 week seems a big job.

Not sure what they did to fix them.

 

A week was a long time in each case but you know what main dealers are like.

 

I would think a couple of days would be more realistic.

 

I now put a big sign in the car asking them not to raise the vehicle on the cills and also give them a copy of the recommended jacking points taken from the TIS CD.

 

Got a weird look from the mechanic when he got in the car but so far so good.

Thanks - Mine has a bent seam - about 1cm and the "belly" of the cill is pushed in a few mm, but you can hardly notice that - my worry if uture rusting from the inside, so I guess I better go down the SEAT main dealer route. Have you or anyone got a copy of the Jacking point info which I could have, so I can do the same as you re: signs.

 

At least it's good to hear that main dealers do it, not just Kwik-fit - I actually felt sorry for the person who did it as he genuinly didn't know and he's been very helpful.
